House Fire - 10/4/2010

This fire occurred at 3 Demarest Road in the Town of Warwick, NY on October 4, 2010. The alarm was sounded at 1:24 A.M. Initial reports stated that fire was coming through the roof and an elderly person was thought to be living in the house. On arrival FD units found a fully involved ranch style house. Shortly after arriving on scene firefighters learned that the house, having been sold recently, was vacant and had been undergoing renovations. The fire was brought under control in approximately one hour.

Firefighters Bob Lemin on the nozzle, and Brendan Donohue operate a 2 1/2 inch handline

  • Conditions on arrival.  Crews are stretching lines.
  • View toward 1 - 4 corner.  The ramp leading to the front door was initially cause for concern as it appeared that a handicapped person may have been in residence.
  • View toward the number 4 side.  Heavy fire vents from the roof above the living room area.
  • View of the number 3 side.  The roof has fully collapsed at this point.
  • 2nd Assistant Chief Joe Smith consults with firefighter John Miles.

  • Greenwood Lake Chief John Rader directs a hose crew operating a 2 1/2 inch hand line as they darken down fire impinging on power lines attached to the building.  The effort succeeded in keeping the wires from burning off the house.  Downed power lines are a major hazard for firefighters.
